Villierstown

Built in the 18th century by John Villiers, 1st Earl of Grandison, to service a linen weaving industry on his estate, Villierstown is a beautiful village with stone cut houses which has won numerous accolades in the National Tidy Towns Competition.

The Quay once served commercial traffic on the navigable Blackwater and is now a tranquil view point on this lovely river.

The church is built in elegant Queen Anne style and has three fine stained glass windows.Dromana House, home of Emily and James Villiers Stuart, is in nearby Dromana Woods. The Hindu-Gothic gate lodge on the road to Villierstown was built in the 19th Centruy to mark the marriage of a popular local landlord and MP.

The town lies on the Dromana Drive, which forms part of the Gaeltacht & Galltacht Drive.
