Rivers

There is excellent access to Waterford's rivers and permits can be purchased from any of the associations and most of the private fisheries in the area.

The River Blackwater draws dedicated game anglers to hunt wild salmon, sea trout and brown trout. Coarse anglers also find the river rewarding for roach, dace rudd and tench. Cappoquin, Ballyduff and Lismore are the major angling centres for the river.

For information on Salmon Fishing on the River Blackwater check out Fortwilliam fishery or contact Patrick Devennie, Fishery Manager, Fort William Estate, Glencairn, Lismore, Co. Waterford, Email: info@fortwilliamfishing.net, Tel: (00353) 87 8292077

The River Tar and River Nire are both renowned game angling rivers, where the villages of Ballymacarbry and Newcastle service the angler.

The River Suir is another of Waterford's great game angling rivers served by Waterford City, Portlaw, as well as the Co. Tipperary towns of Carrick-on-Suir and Clonmel. It is an ideal habitat for salmon and trout, ranging in size from 400g to 1kg, Grilse runs start in late June and last to the end of September.

The lakes around Tramore hold stocks of brown trout as, indeed do the River Colligan, River Finisk and River Brickey near Dungarvan.
